The sky, the sign, or the place
Three collections answer the same date. Each one says something different.
The sky of the first night
The stars as they stood above the hospital, at the exact hour. They are not decorative: they are calculated from an astronomical catalogue, at the position they truly held.
The constellation of their sign
The date is enough: the sign follows from it, and its figure is drawn on the real sky around it. The twelve figures were drawn for this collection and belong to nobody else.
The place they were born
The map of the city, the neighbourhood, the street of the hospital. It is the one you look at differently after moving three times.
The hour changes everything, and you have it
The sky turns. In two hours the constellations have moved, and a poster calculated at 9 pm does not show what one calculated at 11 pm shows.
That is what separates this from a pretty picture of stars: the hour is the one on the record, the place is the hospital, and the sky is calculated for those two.
You also choose the time zone: the hour is read locally, the hour it was there, not the hour it was where you are.
What goes beneath the sky

On its own, in capitals, beneath the disc. It is the title of the piece, and the first thing anyone reads walking into the room.

“14 June 2026, 3:12”. You choose the language the date is written in, which matters when the family spans two countries.

The name of the city, and beneath it the exact latitude and longitude. That is what anchors the sky to a place rather than to an idea.

The gift opened at the hospital or on the way home. It is still on the wall when the clothes have long stopped fitting.

The same sky, in a second copy. It is often the gift that moves them most, and the one people think of last.
